I am finally settling down. I have spent the past two nights in my new apartment, which is only a five-minute walk away from the fake apartment I was duped into believing was a good choice. (See
my previous blog post if you don’t know what I’m talking about there.)
I am starting to think it was kind of fate that I didn’t get the other apartment, because this one is really ideal. It’s tiny, but lovely. Here is what I love about it:

The kitchen looks like it was made by
Fisher-Price, but for adults. And I have never had an oven that I had to light on my own before! The bed is so comfortable, and right by a big window with plenty of natural light. My “landlord” left candles that I light when the sky finally gets completely dark. There’s this old stereo that looks like it’s from the ‘90s, and I luckily had the right cord to connect my iPod and laptop to the speakers, so now I can blast my music, if I so please. There is a loft, too. The bed is SUPPOSED to be up there, but my landlord said it was too heavy. I don’t know what I will do with the empty space up there yet, but I will figure it out. There is a couch so friends can sleep there if they visit me.
And even the shortcomings of this place are endearing to me. The paint is peeling in some places, but I think that it adds character. Plus, with less perfect conditions, normal wear-and-tear that I cause is less noticeable. My bathroom is like a big shower with a toilet and sink stuck in it. So i

t’s very small, actually.
I find it funny that the toilet seat doesn’t stay up because of some weird protruding bit on the tank. I think it’s cute that the place looks cluttered because of all the furniture. And I like the large wooden structures that make this place seem more “Finnish” to me.
The biggest problem: there is no mirror. Not one. The girl who normally lives here doesn’t have a mirror! I have to use the mirror in the elevator until I get one of my own! I will invest in a mirror though. It will be my present to my landlord when she returns.
