Today the mail brought something rather special - a packet containing all of the 22 Baby Einstein DVD's! I was a little uncertain if the deal was true when I saw it advertised for $53 USD couple weeks ago in Amazon, but I decided to give it a shot. I had already decided to order a few of the DVD's (they go for $10-15 each when ordered individually) and I was trying to decide which ones to get when I saw this amazing offer.
What struct me as a little odd was that it's actually offered from the Amazon marketplace rather than Amazon itself - which means the seller is someone else. Nevertheless I figured Amazon must have some type of a quality control in place. I've ordered from them a number of times and always been happy so I placed an order. Now I'm happy to report the offer is real and the product appears to be the real thing!
Baby Einstein DVD Collection
Baby Einstein videos, for those who don't know, are these cute yet educational videos aimed specifically for infants. They have classical music playing on the background and very simple things happening on the screen. Usually there's only a single thing on the screen, making it easier for the baby to focus. Colors are bright and the events are meaningful. The idea is to make it fun to watch while teaching the babies the basics of math, languages, and so on. And babies love it!
So I ended up ordering a lot of the baby literature and DVD's from Amazon. My wife doesn't speak Finnish so the Finnish bookstores aren't really much of help. And when ordering online, well, Amazon has the best selection. Especially when it comes to books in English. This kind of sucks compared to the US, as I like browsing through books in a bookstore.
Back of the Baby Einstein DVD box
When I was living in Las Vegas I often visited the local Borders and Barnes & Noble just to browse throught their selections. In here I can do the same but since the selection is pretty much 99% in Finnish it's not quite as useful for our mixed family. But I guess the truth is that more and more people order their books online even in the US so in a way this is not much different. Just the "random browsing" part is missing, or at least there is less of it.
I have another package on the way so I'll be able to tell you more about the books later on. I ordered the "sequel" to the Pregnant Father book, which (surprise!) talks about the first year of baby's life from dad's point of view. I also ordered a pile of other reading but I can hardly even remember what I ordered. By the time the delivery comes I've probably forgotten everything so it'll be like Christmas to open up the box!
If you're interested in Baby Einstein DVD's I can definitely recommend the box set. It's a bargain compared to buying them individually. Here's a link to the product in Amazon:
