Dear Yuer!
Yuer and a cat
You just turned two months old, and this is the first chance I get to write for you. You know, ever since you came to our life everything has been very very hectic! Even as I write this you're sleeping on my lap...
It's not just you though. You are the sweetest, easiest baby I can think of. You mostly just eat and sleep. You often want some attention but you almost never cry. But you also have a big brother. Your brother Fei is almost 2 and half years old, and very active! He loves you a lot, but you are quite too young and small to receive such large amount of love from a wild boy.
Let's rewind back two months and start from the beginning!
You were born in Uznach, which is a small town in St. Gallen canton in Switzerland. We didn't have anyone to take care of Fei so we thought I wouldn't be able to be there when you're born. We had couple false alarms when your mom took a taxi to the hospital in the middle of the night, only to return in the morning with no baby.
Somehow she convinced me to grab Fei and join her to the hospital that time though. I didn't really think it was going to happen for real and I remember complaining to her for having the spend the night at the hospital, etc... but I'm glad I did. Fei slept in his stroller and I tried to take a few naps in a very uncomfortable hospital bed during the night and somehow we survived the night pretty well.
Yuer was born on March 13, 2010 at 7.11am
It was a tiny little hospital with only three rooms in the maternity ward. Usually they only deliver about one baby every day, but this time there was another baby being delivered so we weren't completely alone. Still, they had an extra room available so Fei and I spent most of the time across the hallway from your mom.
You arrived at 7.11 in the morning of 13th of March, 2010, at 3495 grams and 49 cm. Fei and I had woken up a little earlier and we were with your mom until it was time to push. At that point Fei and I left the room, but only a few minutes later my phone rang. It was your mom, crying... you had arrived!
Yuer with mom (at four days old)
We were a beautiful little baby, and you immediately knew how to start eating. Everything went perfectly except for a little scare we had about 10 minutes after you were born. I remember your mom said that you're falling asleep. The doctor, who was still in the room quickly grabbed you and said that you're not allowed to sleep so soon after the birth. She took you outside to a mobile ER unit they have on the hallway and started giving some oxygen and massage. This quickly woke you up and you were back on mom's lap in no time, but it did cause us a little panic!
You spent 3 days in the hospital with your mom. Fei and I visited you every day, but it was very convenient so we kept the visits short. Fei didn't yet understand that he has a little sister and he kept making a lot of noise, which bothered you quite a bit. You in the meanwhile were just a sweet little baby who treated mom really nicely. You didn't really cry much or make her life difficult.
Yuer trying out Fei's comfortable racing car bed
It was a major change to have you around, to say the least. Still, now that you've been home for couple of months, it's hard to imagine life without you anymore. Fei really quickly realized you're something special. Any time you make a tiny sound, he's the first to pay attention. If you sneeze, he calls out "Yuer cold!" and will not relax until someone makes you warmer by putting a blanket on or picking you up. If you cry, he will pull my finger and steer me to your way.
Fei checking that Yuer is doing ok
And when you're alright, he says he loves you. He comes to hug you, or wonder about your little toes and fingers. You don't really know what to think of it though. I think for you such intense attention is too much as you often try to turn away or even cry a little.
For Fei it's obviously hard to understand this as he is just genuinely excited about you. I think in a few months when you're a little bigger you guys will get along really well. And in a year or two you guys will probably be the best friends. And I really hope that bond will then continue through your life.
Fei and Yuer in matching sleeping bags
It will be interesting to see how you will look like when you grow up. When you were born your hair was quite dark, but it is already much lighter. Your eyes are almost exactly the same color as mine, though the shape is Asian, even more so than what Fei had as a baby.
Similar to Fei, you absolutely love being held by me. If you're fussy and your mom can't get you to sleep, all it takes is for me to grab you. In about three seconds you're fast sleep. And if I put you down on the bed, in about three seconds you're screaming for me again. Funny like that. You can sleep totally well in the most uncomfortably looking position on my arms as I type on the computer, even though there would be a comfortable bed on the offer as well.
Yuer's favorite place to hang out
I don't mind though, it's nice to be important to someone! Welcome to our family!
