Julia was baptized last sunday. It was a really beautiful ceremony. Here are a few pictures:

Yesterday Julia was 2 months old... and as a birhtday present what did we give her?
2 shots!!! She took 3 vaccines yesterday... I don´t know their names in english, but they were: - Hexavalente
                 - Prevenar
                 - Rotavirus
The first 2 she got through shots on each of her legs... the last one was through the mouth...
It soesn´t seem like a great present to me, but it´s necessary, right?
She got a couple of cute outfits too...

This thursday is Julia´s 2 month birhtday. She has started smiling this week. Sooo cute!!



She is giving me a bit of a hard time now... she only wants to sleep on her belly. But the doctor sais she can´t, because of the risk of sudden death... so it´s a struggle to put her to sleep...

The cramps are much better now... she hasn´t had any in days... I´m hoping that the worst is over...

She has lost all of her " newborn"  clothes... She is weighting 5.350 gs, and measuring 54,5 cm.

No news on the food department... the only thing I can giver until next month, other than milk, is orange juice...

Last week Julia drank orange juice for the first time!! She LOVED it!! I think it helps calm her down...
She has been having less cramps now... I hope this phase is over...
We also went for a ride in the sun this weekend... Here´s a picture:

Julia has now started to have cramps, and it´s horrible... there´s not much  can do to help, so I feel powerless... some days are worse than others, and on these days I get really tired...

I know I haven´t been writing very often... I´m still adjusting to the new routine... Here´s what´s been going on:

Julia went back to the doctor when she was 5 days old. She (the doctor) wanted to see her because when we left the hospital she was showing signs that she could develop something I don´t know the name in english - it´s when their skin is a little yellow. This is apparently very common in babies. Everything was normal. She was weighting 2.935 gs (she was born with 3.275 gs), which the doctor said is normal. They lose weight in the first days of life. We then scheduled another appointment for 5 days later. Here´s a picture of her at 5 days:



So 5 days later (when she was 10 days old), we wnt back to the doctor´s. Everything was normal, except that she lost more weight. She was supposed to have gone back to her birth weight. Instead, she was at 2.850 gs. That means we´re now complementing the breastfeeding with a bottle of formula. Here´s a picture of her at 10 days:


We go back to the doctor on the 21st. She looks like she is gaining weight though...

Her umbilical cord fell off when she was 11 days old. We planted it under a rose bush (sort of a tradition here).

Other than that she is great!! Barely even cries... Here´s a picture taken today:

8 DAYS TO GO!!!!

I am getting more and more anxious!! I can´t wait, and it feels like time has slowed down...
I am still working, but it´s getting harder and harder to concentrate on anything...
I went to a meeting yesterday, and the client had the flu... I really hope I don´t catch it... that would be the worst thing that could happen right now...

8 DAYS TO GO!!!!

I know I have been really bad about updating this blog... sorry...
It seems I´ve been having a really hard time concentrating on things lately...
The delivery is scheduled for the 25th, at 7:30 am!! I can´t wait!!

11 days to go!!!

I have the flu today, so ths won´t be very long... but I just wanted to share that the bedroom furniture finnaly arrived, and I think it looks wonderful!
The curtains arrived too, but we still have to put them in place...
I´ll post a picture when I have one...

I am not feeling too good today... I have difficulty breathing, I feel realy tired, and my belly aches a little. I guess that´s all normal, because of the weight gain... Hopefully it will feel better tomorrow...
I also feel a major craving for sweets, whch I shouldn´t eat, so that´s putting me in somewhat of a bad mood...
But I´m trying to keep my mind on the fact that once she´s born, this will all have been worth it!!

I just realised I haven´t posted any pictures of me pregnant... So here they go:

This one was taken 2 weeks ago, and I was (and still am) 6 months pregnant...

I have gained 9 kg so far, and the doctor said t´s too much... It should have been only 6... oh well...

My back´s been aching a little, but nothing that prevents me from working or anything... just a small, annoying pain all day long... it gets worse at night, but gladly I´m usually already home when it happens...

We wnt for the 4D ultrasound last week. At first, I didn´t want to do it, because a lot of people said the baby is often really distorted, and you can´t see anything...
But my doctor said he wanted me to do it, so we went.
When we got there, they wouldn´t let us pay in advance. The lady said half the time it´s impossible to see anything, so they charged you on the way out, if it works.
You can probably tell we went in with no expectations whatsoever... and guess what! We were able to see her!
I know she´s partly hidden in the placenta, umbilical cord, and her own arm, but it was enought o make me wanna cry!
And I think she looks a lot like me!! Wow! What a feeling... I can´t really describe it... it´s the best thng in the world!!
Now I just really can´t wait to see her in person... although I´m really glad we still have 2 more months, since the bedroom furniture we bought is late and won´t be here before the end of the month!!!

Great news! We went for another ultrasound yesterday, and Julia is great! She is measuring 26 cm, and weighting 464 grams. This was what they call a morfologic ultrasound, which means they check all the body parts, to see if it´s all there and working properly. And I mean ALL the body parts!! I mean, I knew they were gonna measure the brain, and check the heart, liver, kidneys, etc... but I wasn´t expecting them to check the lips and measure the nose bone!!

We have bought most of the furniture for her room, and some of the decorations... I don´t have pictures yet, because they won´t deliver the things for another month or so... I can´t wait! Now I´m in the process of researching diaper prices. It´s amazing how they can be different from store to store...

I can´t believe I haven´t written in so long...

We went for the ultrasound on march 3rd, and found out it´s a girl! Her name will be Julia. More importantly, we found out she´s healthy and growing as expected. We could se her spine, we counted her fingers, and the doctor saw the stomach, liver, and many other parts that seemed like a blurr to us...

Then we went on vacation on march 5th, and didn´t return until march 22nd. That´s why I "disappeared" from xihalife.

I started to feel Julia moving about 2 weeks ago. It is the most amazing feeling in the world! Last night my husband could feel her move for the first time. He was thrilled!

Yesterday I went to the doctor, and he said I´m doing great! Except for the 3 kg I gained in the last 45 days... He said it should have been around 1,5 kg... oh well... it is really hard to eat healthy when your on vacation, moving from hotel to hotel...

I have no pictures of the ultrasound this time because we recorded it on a DVD, so the doctor didn´t worry to much about taking snapshots that showed something a regular person understands...

I´ll go for the next ultrasound on April 7th...

As the day of the ultrasound approaches, I can´t seem to think of anything else! We´ll hopefully find out if it´s a boy or a girl, and I just can´t wait! 5 more days to go, and counting...

I know, i know... I haven´t written in a while... I had a problem with my computer and had to buy a new one. It is finally installed, and I am ready to update this blog. We went and had the second ultrasound on February 1st. It was just incredible!! The baby now looks like a baby now, and it was moving so much! It was too soon to find out if it´s a boy or a girl...

I have been feeling a lot of headaches. I went to the doctor last week, and he said I wasn´t eating enough. Yesterday I ate every 2 hours, and the deadache didn´t come.
On march 3rd we´ll have the next ultrasound, and this time we´ll probably find out the sex!! I´m really looking forward to it!

I know I haven´t written in a while, and I´m really sorry about that... thinks have been really crazy...

Second, I wanted to add a picture of my last ultra sound... I wrote so fast last time, that I forgot to add that...
Here goes:

I know you can´t see much, but for me it was really exciting! The baby was 1,1 cm, and the heart was beating really fast.

I have been feeling much better lately. Teh nausea is gone, and it´s been a lot easier eating... in fact, I´m so hungry it scares me sometimes...

This friday we have the third ultra sound, and that´s when we´ll check for diseases like down sindrome... I thought I´d be more scared, but I´m so sure everything is all right, I´m not even thinking about it... Hope I´m right...

On the 26th we had our second ultra sound. It was an amazing experience!! We saw, and heard, the heart beat of the baby. It was beating at 150 bpm, which the doctor said is normal. The baby is now 1,1 cm tall, which corresponds to 7 weeks and 1 day. My mom went with us this time, and she cried so much! ( she always cries when she´s emotional...)
I have stopped feeling nausea, but two days ago, at 9 pm, I spiked a fever of 38,2 degrees. Luckily, I have the doctor´s cell phone number. I called him up and he started me on antibiotics. The fever was gone by the next morning. I spent the whole day yesterday resting, but today I´m feeling much better!
I am glad the holidays are over, ´cause I felt tired most of the time... For new years eve, we´re just going to stay at home, and I´m looking forward to that.

I went to the doctor on monday, and as expected, he said all the tests are normal. We scheduled another ultra sound for the 26th. I can´t wait! He said we´ll definitely hear a heart beat then...
In the mean time, I started feeling a little sick. Funny thing is that it´s worse in the afternoon, so I don´t know where the term "morning sicknes" came from... But it´s really very manageable, not oo bad at all. Usually if I start feeling bad, I just eat something, and get better right away!
People have been really nice, and the baby got a bunch of gifts already. i don´t have the pictures with me now, but I´ll post as soon as possible.
It seems to me like time has slowed down... I wonder if all women feel this way...

So I went and had the ultrasound... the doctor sais everything is consistent with a 5 week pregnancy, but we couldn´t hear a heart beat yet. The "baby" is 1.5mm!!
My blood tests came back all normal (in the results they tell you what your value is, ant the range of normal, and I was withing range on all the tests, so that is good news).
On monday I take these tests back to the doctor, and we´ll go from there!

The doctor ordered an extensive list of blood tests, so I went and did these this morning. One of the tests (I think it was the one that measures the sugar in the blood) required me to not eat for 9 hours prior to collecting the blood. So I did that, they took the blood, and then they made me drink this horrible tasting liquid. It was very, very sweet, and for someone who hadn´t eaten in almost 10 hours, really hard to stomach!! Then they made me wait an hour to get more blood... Reading it now, it sound a lot worse than it really was... I guess I was happy to go through all that!!
In about an hour I have an ultrasound (is ultrasound the correct term in english? I keep saying it, but I´m not sure...), and they said MAYBE I´ll be able to see the heart beat...

My mom is positively the most excited person about this baby. So she went out and bought the first gift. Here´s a picture:

So I went to the doctor yesterday, for my first pregnancy check up. He did a full exam and said everything looks normal. He ordered a buch of blood tests and an ultrasound.I am really excited to do the ultrasound, because they say I might be able to see the heart beating!!! He also gave me dieti instructions, and said I can only gain 2 pounds a month! The estimated due date is 08/08/2008! It´s funny... I´m very early in the regnancy, but I already have the feeling it´s going to be a boy... I guess we´ll know in about 3 months! My friend sent me this website, which tells us what happens in every week (I´m on the 5th)

I´m sorry it´s in portuguese, but it´s a really cool site, and I thought some people might be able to read it!

I´ll tell you what: pregnancy tests you buy at the drugstore aren´t always right!! I said I took one on thursday, and it was negative, right? Well, I took another one on Saturday, and it was positive!!!
So I went to the lab, and did the blood test, and my HCG was 771!! That is POSITIVE!!! I have a doctor´s appointment tomorrow to see if everything is fine... It looks like I´m on the 5th week!!
I am soooo excited...I still can´t believe it!!

Yesterday I was a little sad, so I didn´t want to write much... here´s what happened with the doctors Tuesdar and Wednesday.
On tuesday the doctor examined my husband, and said there´s no indication that there´s anything wrong with him. He asked us to wait and get a 3rd spermogram in december to confirm.
On wednesday we went back to that first doctor, and she wants me to have surgery. She wants to remove a cist I´ve had for years, because it would be in the way of any further treatment plan we decide to follow... But it seems this surgery will have to wait until april, given that the doctor can´t do it before february, and I don´t want to do it then because of my trip in march (not enough time to recover). Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Ok. This will be a quick one... Just took a pregnancy test this morning, and it came back negative again... oh well... I guess we´ll have to wait another month...

While we wait, I´ve been trying to keep busy... everyone says the more you think about it, the harder it is to get pregnant... So I´m doing what I always do: Hand crafts!!

Mu husband and I have been trying to have a baby, but we´re having a hard time. This is what happened so far:
I stopped taking the pill in december 2006, and I started taking the folic acid (they say you should start it 3 months prior to getting pregnant). So we stopped prevention in march this year.
People (includng doctors) kept telling me that there´s nothing to worry about until it´s been 1 year, but I was sensing something wrong, so we decided to get tested... This was last month...
My tests all came back OK, but my hasband´s spermogram was not good. The count was good, but not the shapes and speeds...
So we went back to the doctor, and she said he needed to take the test again, to make sure... He did, and this time it all came back normal... So now he has an appointment with a specialist next tuesday, and we go back to the doctor who ordered the test on wednesday...
We´ll se how it goes...
