2007-04-14 - April: Diamond and Daisy/Lily
April:

Stone: Diamond
Flower: Daisy or Lily

Diamonds are a girl's best friend; or so the saying goes.  Wearing a diamond (if it's your birthstone) will strengthen relationships and increase inner strength.  The diamond's healing properties affect brain diseases and pituitary glands.  Daimonds can be colourless, nearly colourless, faintly tinted (usually yellow), lightly tinted (usually yellow), and tinted (usually yellow but may progress to brownish).  Diamonds are known for their extreme hardness, and in fact the word "diamond" comes from te Greek word "adamas," which means hardest metal.

The meaning of the Daisy is loyal love, innocence, and purity.  The secret meaning giving a daisy is "I'll never tell."  The English name for daisy is Day's eye, and they were intended to cure eye troubles.  In the thirteenth century they were used for wounds, fever and gout.  There is an old English saying that spring has not come until you can set your foot on twelve daises. If you dream of daisies in the spring or summer that is good but if in the fall or winter it is bad luck.

2007-04-10 - February: Amethyst and Primrose
February:

Stone: Amethyst
Flower: Primrose

The Amethyst is referred to as the the "sobriety stone" as it was once believed to prevent drunkenness and used to treat alcoholism and other types of addictions.  The name comes from the Greek word "amethystos," which means "remedy against drunkeness," funilly enough.  The Amethyst is a member of the quartz family, and it's colour ranges from a pale lilac to a deep purple to a red violet.  The original meaning of the colour was for mourning and penitence, but as purple dies were very expensive to produce, it became a symbol of power and wealth and is associated with royalty.

While the primrose is the February flower, violets and iris' are both reputed to be February flowers as well.  The scientific name of the primrose is Primula Vulgaris.  They are most frequently found in north temperate climates, and are native to North America, Asia, and Europe.

Primrose: I can't live without you

Primrose is derived from the Latn words "prima," meaning feminine, and "rosa," meaning rose.
