My girls, aged 15 and 8 are hooked to television.  The remote is a weapon and issue of all wars.  They both want to watch a movie at the same time and they both think their movie is more important.  Do you think I should get them counselling or take them to TV addicts anonymous?

hide the remotes and say that they probably lost them or get a really cheap tv each off ebay or something for their rooms

Maybe you could make up a list of favourite TV programs, so you can schedule who wants to watch a particular program at a particular time.
As for movies, I know this is harsh, but you could always ban them from the TV for a few hours until they learn to compromise. It worked with us when we were kids. We had to agree on a movie together, or we weren't allowed to watch anything and had to go outside and play. Hope this helps.
