| I don’t know what this called in chinese but few species from this same genus are used in traditional Chinese medicine and those plants called “chuan bei mu”. The genus Fritillaria called “bei mu shu”. The Latin name Fritillaria is derived from the word fritillus, meaning dice box or dice cup. I think the common name “Crown Imperial” comes from a crown of leaves above the flower. This species is native in large area from Turkey to Himalaya (probably few of my Xiha-friends remember, that I’m very fond of Himalaya region plants). This is quite a big plant; It grows to about 1 meter (3 feet) in height. It is very attractive, but it smells awful and they says that the odor drive mice and moles away.
